Glossary

I’m using a lot of abbreviations in my analysis posts, and thought it would be useful to provide a glossary for those:

  • EURUSD – The Euro/USDollar currency pair
  • GDX – Market Vectors Gold Miners ETF, an tradable index fund that closely resembles the HUI index of unhedged gold mining companies, my preferred way of trading gold stocks
  • Hrly – Hourly (Refers to hourly charts or indicators based on those charts. In hourly charts, each candle or bar represents one hour.)
  • Hourlies – The hourly charts
  • Dly – Daily (Refers to daily charts or indicators based on those charts. In a daily chart, each candle or bar represents one day.)
  • Dailies – The daily charts
  • RSI – Relative Strength Index, one of my favorite momentum indicators
  • Fibo – Fibonacci Level (most often used to predict retracement levels. 61.8%, 50%, and 38.2% are the most common Fibonacci retracements, and forex markets often adhere to these levels, sometimes with stunning accuracy. If I use a number after “Fibo”, e.g. Fibo38, it refers to the 38.2% Fibonacci retracement of a range that I either specify, or that’s obvious when looking at the chart)
  • TL – Trendline
  • Sppt – Support
  • Rsst – Resistance
  • L – Low, e.g. L-8-22 refers to the low made on 8/22
  • H – High, e.g. H-9-10 refers to the high made on 9/10
  • EMA – exponential moving average
  • r/r – risk/return
  • FS – failure swing
  • div – divergence
